For a distribution and logistics company, communications and distribution systems play a key role in ensuring that customers receive timely and accurate delivery.
Del Papa Distributing Company, a major Texas distributor for Anheuser-Busch, was struggling with unreliable communication between legacy handheld units and the main route and accounting server. Daily orders had to be manually entered and delivery routes were not able to accurately settle accounts for end of day reports.
This placed incredible strain across the company's three distribution centers, a strain that disrupted sales, warehouse and administrative personnel. Del Papa called upon RSA to resolve these problems thereby improving customer delivery performance and internal accounting service levels.
RSA Responds
RSA immediately provided a senior consultant with experience in distribution applications and communication technology to serve as a single point of contact for troubleshooting, reporting, and technology vendors. RSA worked with the route accounting application vendor to streamline the communication process. A hardware vendor was engaged to assist with proper service agreements and some short-term upgrades were implemented.
RSA managed vendor relationships at both technical and business levels, resulting in well-coordinated support and service. By providing the knowledge and experience required, RSA helped Del Papa to manage their vendor relationships at a level never before possible in their organization.
Subsequently, RSA deployed a mobile wireless platform for Del Papa's field sales force resulting in increased efficiency and productivity. Additional mobile wireless rollouts are scheduled in 2005 for delivery personnel.
RSA Results
As the new processes stabilized, Del Papa benefited from significant labor reduction, allowing them to re-task personnel to perform their other duties in support the company's core mission. Current uptime system availability is 98%. Order flow and warehouse efficiency at all time highs.
Sales people spend more time in front of customers; warehouse employees work with a constant order flow and administration is able to focus on information and support tasks.
